Leaving Taxidermy in Canada

November 12th, 2008

Leaving taxidermy in Canada is a mistake.  If your hunting in Canada do everything you can to bring it home.

1. The USA Fish & Wildlife service will charge $75-$155 per trophy for stamping the paperwork to cross the border after the mount is finished.  Basically they are charging you for leaving it in Canada.  However if you bring it home with you there are no fees if the trophy accompanies the hunter.

2. Permit issues in Canada have been a growing concern.  To get a permit for say a black bear or wolf it can potentially add 3-4 months waiting for permits.

3. Thanks to the exchange rate no taxidermist in Canada will be able to beat a US taxidermist in price.

Save you money and bring you trophy animal back to the USA.

Hunting the Yukon with Widrig Outfitters

Widrig Outfitters

Located in the Northeastern Yukon along the border of the N.W.T. The Outfiting concession is almost 4000 square miles of completely isolated, rugged, and scenic mountains.

This company is owned and operated by Yukoner, Chris Widrig. Chris has been in the guiding business for 34 years. He received his first guides license from the late outfitter, George Dalziel, in 1973. As with most young guides he started at the bottom, wrangling horses and learning from those with more experience. For many seasons in Northern British Columbia he polished his guiding skills, ran a trap line, cared for horses in the winter, and became a proficient bush pilot with over 4500 hours flying time. In 1986, he purchased his own outfitting concession in a remote corner of the Yukon Territory.

Widrig Outfitters 97 Ltd. provides all equipment, horses, shelter, professional guides, transportation, advice, and all local logistical support to non-resident hunters who want to hunt in our outfitting concession.
